Does anyone have a sample of the CHIPRA notice that is supposed to be given to employees by 4/1/09? I can't seem to find one anywhere and not knowing enough about CHIPRA I'm not sure what to say. Thanks.
I have a workshop I'm attending next Thursday for CHIPRA and COBRA Subsidy. So please - no spoilers! I want to enjoy the workshop without knowing the ending!
Found some good information on SHRM's weekly summary deal. .the samples are not out. What a surprise. . well we do have to April 1. . I can't find an icon for tired so . .
Edit. . there is also some discussion on the "other" forum..
Right now the government is trying to catch up with the stimulus bill. The changes to COBRA and CHIPRA - formerly SCHIP - have been confusing for everyone - especially the government. I will get that information to you as soon as I come across it. California has a "Healthy Families" program that is funded in part by Tobacco taxes. There is legislation in place to "buy into" the federal CHIPRA legislation. I am sure it will be passed, but I have not seen any movement in a few weeks.
My agent just informed me that we basically won't have to worry about this for 12-18 months. Even though it says beginning this April, there is another clause that says the feds have at least 12 months to develop the required notification form and then another six months to issue it. Just like our government to pass a law and then try to figure out how to make it work.
The DOL has not issued sample notices yet. I went to a seminar last week and though the changes apply as of 3/1/09, employers have until 4/18 to send out the notices. The DOL "is to develop a model notice by 3/19/09" according to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA)...anyone want to be on if they make that deadline?!
You are safe! No one bet you because they thought you were a shoe-in. It's a weird fact, I know, but sometimes the government does come through for us. **==
That was the link my friend gave me - I'll send him an e-mail and see if he has any further information. From what he told me the CHIPRA were supposed to be out there as well.

CHIPRA is the acronym for CHILDREN’S HEALTH INSURANCE PROGRAM REAUTHORIZATION ACT OF 2009

I have a friend who practices Employment Law (in CA). I sent him a message regarding this and will let you know what, if anything, I find out.
