Roll Butter

While visiting back in Michigan I found what's called "Roll Butter" in the grocery store. It comes in a 2# roll and is made by some Amish community in Ohio. It is so good it makes regular butter taste like lard. But it is also about $4.00 per pound.

When I got back to Minnesota I tried to find it, but couldn't. So, using the label off the butter, I found a web site for Heini's Cheese Chalet in Millersburg, Ohio, supposedly Amish country. Even though I tend not to believe that the Amish would access the web, I e-mailed them anyway for information on how I could order more roll butter. The e-mail I received back said, word for word, "Call 1-800-253-6636 and ask for either Ruby or Elva and they will help you." I called and got Elva, who happened to be just the sweetest lady. She took my order and said they would pack it in a cooler for me so that it would arrive fresh for me. Four days later I received my 8# order. Delicious!

Amish? If they say they are, I'll believe them.

I baked a loaf of Callah bread, grabbed the butter crock and went to heaven.
