Irish Soda Bread

Since we have this nifty new forum, I'm wondering if anyone can provide me a recipe for Irish soda bread. My mom used to make it for me every year on my birthday. After she passed away, nobody could find the recipe and I haven't been able to find one, either, that doesn't incorporate weird foreign objects like fruits or dates or some such nonsense. Any help out there from among this gaggle of gourmets? x:-)

2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons cold unsalted butter
2 tablespoons cold vegetable shortening
1 egg, beaten
1 cup buttermilk
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt and mix well. Cut the butter and shortening into small pieces and add to the flour mixture. Using your fingers, work the cold butter and shortening into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs. Add the egg and the buttermilk and mix into the flour mixture until it is incorporated. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead gently until the dough forms a smooth ball. Place loaf on a lightly greased cookie sheet. Place the loaf in the oven and bake for 40 to 45 minutes or until golden brown.
Got this recipe from the cooking channel! Hope this is what you were looking for!
I'll try it this weekend and let you know how it turned out.
1 tb Butter, softened
4 c All-purpose flour
1 t Baking soda
1 t Salt
1 1/2 c Buttermilk
Preheat the oven to 425. With a pastry brush coat a
baking sheet evenly with the tablespoon of softened
butter. Sift the flour, soda and salt together into a
deep mixing bowl. Gradually add 1 cup of the
buttermilk, beating constantly with a large spoon
until the dough is firm enough to be gathered into a
ball . If the dough crumbles, beat up to 1/2 cup more
buttermilk into it by the tablespoon until the
particles adhere.
Place the dough on a lightly floured board and pat and
shape it into a flat circular loaf about 8" in
diameter and 1 1/2 " thick. Set he loaf on the baking
sheet. Then with the tip of a small knife cut a 1/2"
deep X into the dough, dividing the top of the loaf
into quarters.
Bake the brad int the middle of the oven for about 45
minutes or until the top is golden brown.
There are a couple of variations on this. You can add
1 cup currants or raisins with the flour. Also you
can sprinkle the top of the loaf with caraway seeds.
