You made me laugh with memories! We often wore hip huggers, but one would never be caught dead in public with a muffin tummy like you see today.
I tease my daughters and grand-daughters about thongs. I keep telling them a thong is something you wear on your feet. I call the other BCP. I'll let you figure out what the letters stand for.
I know, even when we were wearing very low cut hip-huggers, somehow we managed to keep everything tucked inside, even if we weren't wearing a bodysuit. To have your tummy (or other regions) on display just because your pants were low-cut was just not done back then.
Do you remember the short-shorts fad in the early 70's? We always called them "hot pants", although I'm not sure if they were called the same thing everywhere else. Most of them were the shorts with a little mini dress over them that was split up the front to show off the shorts. I was never allowed to wear them, my mom was pretty strict about what I was allowed to wear back then so I never owned any. That particular fad was what caused my high school to relax their dress code. They began allowing girls to wear those so then they decided they may as well allow us to start wearing pants & jeans to school also, although it still couldn't be anything too scruffy or dirty. Up until then it had to be dresses or skirts, and not too short or you got sent home.
I owned some hot pants myself. I also had plenty of those short dresses. Of course, since I was so short myself they usually didn't get TOO short. However, I remember a little top and skirt that I only got to wear a couple of times. Then one morning just before the bus came my dad saw me. Adios cute little outfit. And I bought it using my allowance too. I bought all my clothes with my allowance so couldn't afford to lose an outfit. Oh well.
Then the skirts got long, but with ruffles and off the (or no) shoulders. My hubby wore Angel Flights then, and boy, did he look good. lol That's how I know the more outrageous the kds get the more embarrassed they will be when their kids see their pictures in what was once their favorite outfits. The little ones laugh at those pictures of us now, but I smile too coz I know they will have their turn eventually.
Did anybody else wear leg warmers back in the 80's when they were in style? I had one pair of them, which I wore to walk to and from work every day when the weather was cold. My son was teasing me not too long ago about having worn leg warmers (and they were pretty darned ugly ones, I have to admit) but for me they weren't a fashion statement but something practical, because I wore dresses to work every day and walked to & from work, no matter what the weather. Funny thing is, now they're regaining popularity and my 9-year-old granddaughter just loves them.
You're bringing back memories! I, too, wore pedal pushers, bell bottoms and hot pants! You are correct...back "then" there were no tummies (or bellies!) hanging out!
By the way, I led my workshop on Millennials. There was about 30 people there. All but two were Millennials. I was expecting older people (like you guys) to come but the younger crowd seem to want to hear about themselves.
Yep... I know right were Chama is located, been through there a few times; once travled all over New Mexico and Colorado back when Wally-World was just going into those states. We have since vacationed in Colorado a couple times; the kids really enjoyed following the dino digs scattered over the state and the Anasazi cliff dwellings down around the four corners area.
I like the Monument Lake area just west of Trinidad. It is so beautiful. It's just a shame you have to drive through so much flat land to get there from here.

Isn't that a trait of the Millennial generation, that they are self absorbed? Unlike OUR generation. LOL
