What's funny is the pastor's defenders saying "He's not the bad guy the media is making him out to be... all he said was ______________," and they quote the nasty thing he said. They don't realize that's why the media is painting such a picture... because most of us find his position repugnant.
Its funny they arent really talking about this. so far the coverage of the elections have been frustrating. its either the talking heads rambling on about meaningless issues (lipstick on a pig) or them talking about how the media spends too much time talking about meaningless issues.
I'd like to hear more about how they will deal with our economy, our immigration problems, and the energy crisis.
LAST EDITED ON 09-11-08 AT 08:17AM (CST)[br][br]Careful Skosh, you used the word intelligent in reply to a post from Paul. He'll get a big head.
Actually, if you read about politics in the 19th century it was nasty at times. Much worse than today. The press and the opposition made many crude references to Lincoln, his looks and his manner of dress - he was often described as an ape. It seems to have gotten worse recently after the Republicans went after Clinton so vociferously a decade ago. It's been tit for tat ever since.
Ray, thanks for the warning about Paul - I will watch that in the future x:D
Politics has always been and will always be a divisive business (yes, business), with each side trying to outsmear the other. Sad, sad, sad.
I was not even born yet (jab) when poor Nixon 'lost' in the debate to Kennedy because Nixon sweated profusely and Kennedy was nice looking. What a poor reason to choose a candidate. I blame Hollywood (but I like to blame them for everything - it is easy).
You may even be more snarky than Paul. Great......
Actually, I drove the carriage to Ford's theater that Lincoln rode in. He had just taken delivery of it a couple days prior to that fateful night and it was his first ride in it. It was a brand new black Studebaker and he complained a little that there wasn't much room for his large feet in the passenger compartment. His carriage is on display at the Studebaker museum in Indiana.
Well, part of my post above is true. I read about his carriage when I visited the Studebaker museum a couple years ago. It was roped off, so we couldn't actually touch it like we could the other cars.
I too recall the Kennedy/Nixon debates but then I also remember Eisenhower being in office. The first election I can remember actually being involved in was the Johnson/Goldwater. I remember the AuH2O bumper stickers...
I have always heard that the U.S. is tilted being highest in the North East and lowest in the South West and every loose nut in the country eventually rolls out to California.
I get the feeling Skosh has a twinkle in her eye and a Bush-like smirk on her face when she jabs. I'm thinking of hitting that alert button and accusing her of harassing old people. She probably trips old men when they walk past her. And I imagine if she is at an intersection waiting for a little old lady to cross in front of her, she guns her engine and inches close to the poor frightened senior citizen trying to hurry her along though her gait may be painful and slow all hunched over hanging on to her cane for dear life as if it could save her from the impatient woman with the demonic look in her eye driving the monster SUV. That's Skosh.
Spot on Ray, Spot on! Are you psychic or was that you in the crosswalk yesterday? I prefer to gently nudge the old folks with my bumper when they don’t move fast enough - THAT really gets them moving. No SUV for me, I drive a convertible (with a V6 engine) vroom vroom.
I won’t tease you about going to the Studebaker museum ;;) You are out there gathering valuable information so you can pass it on to us young whippersnappers.

No wonder you are such a wealth of information; you have actually been a witness to history!
You aren't too much older than I am - you are just so much more knowledgable and wiser (did I dig out of that hole okay?).
Were you at the Ford Theater that fateful night as well? xhugs

Again with the vast knowledge - it is so nice to hear history from someone who was actually there, it adds a whole new dimension to it...
I believe Dutch has me by about 3 years or so. And I have a horrible memory. The year 1956 is kind of hazy.
x:-)
If 7 human years equals 1 dog year, how many Northern years equal 1 southern year?
Wait - are you equating we'uns down here with dogs?? xflash Marina - where are you?
Time just seems to go slower in the South, cause we all like to savor every minute.
As a native of 'Southern' California my opinion 'don't mean a thang' down here. I get teased about coming from the "land of fruits and nuts"
However, you CAN and SHOULD make fun of him for visiting the Studebaker museum.

Do double entendres fall under the umbrella of harassment? x}>
Okay, let's race...1 2 3 Go. Vroom vroom. I win!
Once more... 1 2 3 Go. Vroom vroom. I win again!!
