Complaining Monk

This is a classic.

An earnest young man seeking a life of holiness and devotion to God joins a monastery and takes a vow of silence. Every seven years, he is allowed to speak just two words.

After seven years, he appears before the elders to say his two words. He pauses and says, "Cold floors." The elders nod silently and the young monk returns to his duties.

Another seven years go by and the monk is once again before the elders to say his two words. "Bad food." he says. Again the elders nod in silence and the monk returns to his post.

After seven more years, the monk returns again for his next two words. This time he says, "I quit!"

One of the elders turn to another one and says, "Im not suprised. He's been complaining since he got here."
