  • Yeah, upstate NY. We are the carousel capitol of the world home to spiedies.
  • Thanks Ray, but I think there is too much rain between here and there. I'm a wuss, I like to ride dry.
  • Lake Tahoe is predicting dry warm weather. 8th wonder of the world.
  • Our weather forecast is looking great but its Oregon so you never know...

Come visit Cannon Beach, one of the top ten beaches in the United States.
  • Thanks guys, I appreciate the help. Unfortunately, I only have 6 days to get there and back. Told my hubby if we didn't find somewhere to ride, we're going to paint the inside of the house and put down new tile floors. Let you know in a week whether I've remodeled or have road rash.
  • Here in the Land of 10,000 Droughts and Only One Tribe That Does Rain Dances, The Rest Do Casinos; I've tried everything to get it to rain to no avail. I've waxed my car, planned BBQ's, and even took the umbrella out of the golf bag. Nothing works.

Hey, we're not New Orleans, but that's a good thing. Come on up.
  • Larry, you're talkin' to an Okie. I'd bet we have as many casinos or more than you. Around here you can't drive 20 miles without passing one.
  • Yea, but are you proud to be an Okie from ....

I lived in Shawnee for four years in a former life ('76 - '79) and travled all over the state. Lots of great folks in the OK state. That is as long as you like Sooner ball.
  • It's going to be bone dry in St. Louis, and we've got... well, let's see...

    Um... forget it.

Terrible traffic, a tiny cramped zoo, an Arch that's closed half the time, a lame baseball team, the world's worst pizza, and virtually no Mexican restaurants. Not much of a draw.
  • It is hot and sunny in Phoenix.

It will continue to be hot and sunny in Phoenix until the monsoons hit in July/August, and then it will be hot, sunny, and muggy.

There are lots of things to do here, but we don't do them because it is too hot and sunny in Phoenix. That is why we God made Flagstaff, AZ. It's always cool there.

Daily temps here are in the 110 degree range, give or take a few degrees.

If you come visit, you could spend your days hanging with me in the office. You'd have to help me work, but you could do it in shorts, tank tops and flip flops. I'll play some Jimmy Buffet and even let you drink margaritas while you work. Nobody else here gets that kind of special treatment, but for you I'll make an exception, as long as you don't mind a little HR work while you are at it.

  • Uh, how open is that invitation and is it for a limited time only? I love visiting Phoenix, even in the summer, but haven't been there for probably 10 years.
BTW Q did you ever make your trip through KS?

  • The wife and me are trying to decide if we want to make a tip to Phoenix this summer. She wants the kids to come here, but we'll probably end up going there.
  • allsteaks, we finally decided to just fly. It's twice as much $$ as gas/hotels/restaurants would be, but the difference in travel time is worth it. I just don't think I can face another two-days-each-way trip in the car again. My kids have never flown before, so that should be exciting. I'll advise my parents to meet us at the airport with tequila shots. I'll be needing them. x:-)

Speaking of tequila, notice how ray didn't volunteer himself and his wife to help me get some work done, even though margaritas could be involved?

ray, it's so much easier to take the two of you to AZ, then take the whole brood of them to see you. (Easier to the kids, anyway) My parents visit us 3-4 times each year. We visit them maybe once a year if we are lucky. My husband's family are in the San Antonio and Houston areas, so we have to take turns visiting them.

I grew up with my dad's parents in town, and my mom's mother only 2 hours away. We saw the grandparents all the time. Didn't realize how lucky I was back then... I'm just glad my boys' grandparents can visit so often, so they aren't strangers. x:-)

  • That is so true... not realizing how lucky we were to have spent time with our grandparents. I crew up less than a half hour from my mom's parents and grandparents. I have so many great memories of time spent with grand-parents and great-grandparents. My own sons will never know what they have missed by not being able to do the same. Maybe that is why I can hardly wait for a couple of daughter-in-laws and grandkids of my own.
  • Their great grandma (my grandma) turns 100 next month. They both know who she is and enjoy her. I remember meeting my own great grandma when I was about 10, but don't remember anything other than that she was "old."

We are leaving our boys with my parents for a week after our visit. First time ever that I've left them with someone else, and not in my own house.

Now that I'm used to the idea, you can take them for a week if you want. It'll give you some practice. x:D
  • Q, you have two boys? I have two girls. We should talk dowries someday.
  • " I'll advise my parents to meet us at the airport with tequila shots. I'll be needing them."

I've found they work better if you give them to the kids before the flight.
  • So our plans have changed. My mom is flying down tomorrow to pick up my oldest and they are flying back out on Saturday. My oldest is staying with my parents for three weeks, and then my husband, my youngest and I are all flying up on 7/14 for our vacation. Both boys are still staying with my parents for a week after we leave.

This week sucks. I don't feel like explaining it in detail and I don't want to monopolize this thread with it right now, but I will fill you in at some point. The short story is my seven-year-old has some special needs that make it difficult for him to function in large groups. The way he chooses to handle his frustration has caused him to get kicked out of everywhere we've placed him this summer and my parents are coming to the rescue. He is excited to go, and I am sad because I will miss my baby. The world will not end, however.
  • HRQ,
Belated thanks for the invite. We ended up in Colorado; although the margaritas and flip flops would have been good. I actually got to take a whole week with no interruptions from the office (imagine that). And we rode 1792 miles in 6 days without getting rained on once.
Don't worry about baby boy; Grandmas have a way with handling their grandsons.
