I could've also entitled this post "19th Nervous Breakdown." That's how I felt during the Rose Bowl tonight! But Vince Young and the Longhorns prevailed and my alma mater is #1!! WOOOO-HOOOO! I live in central Austin, not too far from campus, and everyone is going nuts. I'm up way too late on a "school night" but who cares? I just opened a bottle of champagne and the night is YOUNG!!! (Get it?)

Wooo-hooo, so tell us, how was 6th street?

Didn't hear about 6th St -- seems like the epicenter of revelry was the Drag (Guadalupe St, which is the western border of campus). Horns were honking and sirens were blaring until the wee hours. I packed it in at 2 am, leaving some champagne in the bottle in deference to my working life!

If both Reggie and Vince go to the NFL, maybe neither team will be back.

(I'm killing myself here, because I really know nothing about sports and I'm talking like I actually do. However, I am well aware that both of my degrees from the University of Texas at Austin will be revoked if I do not stand and raise the hook 'em salute during all renditions of The Eyes of Texas.)

I was sorry to see USC lose, being in Ca. and with a son-in-law who works at USC, but that Young is some football player. Texas seemed to have an answer for Reggie except for that one run but USC didn't seem to have an answer for Young.

I went to bed early, but my husband stayed up and cheered for the Big XII. I was glad to see they "represented". :>) Also glad to hear you celebrated - these things don't come around that often and they're a lot of fun.

Our local paper had the headline yesterday
"A Texas Toast" which of course I have very discreetly laid on my desk to insure everyone is reminded I'm a TEXAN!!!! You can take the Longhorn out of Texas but you can't take TEXAS out of the Longhorn!!! We were doin the dance after the final play..the nieghbors probably thought we just won the lotto. We had the Drag goin on in the living room. (Of course if your Texan you know I mean the street and not the queen!)

Always wondered what it is that inspires such loyalty in Texans. I lived there on a couple of different occasions over my military career and all I remember about Texas is heat, humidity and fire ants... I'd count the days until I was rotated outta there! x;-)

Some parts of Texas are hellish, some are butt-ugly, and even some of the best parts (like Austin) have heat, humidity, and fireants. In fact, somebody famous (can't remember who) once said, "If I owned Hell and Texas, I'd rent out Texas and live in Hell.

But some parts are wonderful. Where can you get virtually every type of terrain in one state? Beach, mountains, desert, pine forests, high plains, rolling hill country with crystal rivers...I could on go, but it really doesn't matter. You can't get it from a travelog or topography lesson. It's a Texas thang, and it's not for everybody.

Don't forget the people themselves too...ya know those friendly (for the most part)Texans. Some folks see it as obnoxious but your right...Texas pride is a Texas thing you either get it or you don't. Don't get mad at me but if you don't get it...that's ok...we understand and you have our deepest sympathy!!!
