Live to be eighty?

I recently picked a new primary care physician. After two visits and exhaustive lab tests, he said I was doing "fairly well" for my age. A little concerned about his comment, I couldn't resist asking him, "Do you think I'll live to be eighty?"
He asked, "Do you smoke or drink?"
"Oh, no," I replied. "I don't do either."
He asked: "Do you eat steaks and barbequed ribs?"
I said, "No, my previous doctor said that all meat is very unhealthy."
"Do you spend a lot of time in the sun, like playing golf, sailing, hiking, etc?"
"No, I don't" I said.
Do you gamble, drive fast cars, or have a lot of sex?"
"No, unfortunately, I don't do any of those things either."

He looked at me and said: "Then why in the he## would you care if you"ll live to be eighty?"

Just eighty? I plan on living a lot longer than that and with all faculties intact. Although I will never know I plan on outliving all other 60 year olds on the forum, all the 50's, some of the 40's and the rest would be too much to hope for.

Guess again, G3. Didn't you see the original post? I'm doing all I can to extend my life, even if it is a miserable existence. There's no way you're going to outlive me after getting all that sun in CA and Mexico.
Anyway, best wishes from another soon-to-be 60 year old.

I've got genes. My mother will be 100 on the 26th.

I've got jeans, too, but doubt that they will prolong my life. The best I can do is a great grandfather who died at age 96 on the operating table for what they thought was appendicitis.

He would have probably lasted until 110 so yes, you do have jeans.

One of my grandfathers was 101 when he was shot by a jealous husband. The other died at 97 when he fell out of a tree-stand while deer hunting. I'm told that one of my great-grand mothers was still milking cows when she was 90. My mother is 86 and works at River Oaks Hospital near here.

I plan to buy a new Harley when I turn 70, but that's quite a number of years away.
