Cereal Box 'Treats'

Shadow's answer to the Superhero post reminded me: What was your favorite cereal box treat/toy/game/surprise? Mine probably predates most of you - it was the Big Inch Land Company (or something like that) that I believe was in General Mills cereals and they gave away deeds to a square inch of land in Alaska. Boy, I kept those deeds for a long time - must have been several months.

we were never permitted cereal that had "toys" inside the box. No sugar cereals either!

What are cereal prizes? My momma couldn't afford boxed cereal. We rummaged through the dumpster and ate the cereal boxes cause they still smelled sorta like cereal. It was quite a treat to pour hand-churned buttermilk over a shredded cereal box in a tin cup.

I once ordered a submarine that actually worked (sunk and came back up) after you loaded it with, as I recall, baking soda amd maybe vinegar. What a dissappointment. It looked the size of a c-47 on the box, ran to the mail box everyday for 5 weeks, when it came it was all of 3 inches long, and really didn't work that well in the tub either. Never ordered anything off a cereal box again.

The problem is obvious! If you had read the fine print you would have discovered that it was not supposed to function well in one of the newfangled porcelain type tubs (chemical reaction). The fine print clearly said, "No. 9 Washtub Required".

How I wish I still had only 1/2 of the Baseball Cards my brother and I collected off of cereal boxes. We had no idea what we had. We used to clip them on spokes of our bikes to make a "motor" sound.

I saw some cereal box cards at a flea market recently selling for $8-10 each.

My favorite was a 45 by the Archies I cut off the back of a Sugar Smacks box. Can't even guess how many strange things we had to eat for my brother's prize cravings. Rule was if you wanted the prize, you had to eat the cereal.

I ordered the magic catalog from the back of the cereal box. Then, I proceeded to buy disappearing ink, itching powder and a potato gun. It was a steal, a buck each plus a stamp for shipping. I waited about 6 weeks and finally, they came.

The ink disappeared, but left a stain on clothes.

The itching powder did not itch but it did trigger an asthma attack on my brother since I placed it on his pillow.

The potato gun did not fire potato plugs 50 feet but rather about 5 feet.

I never bought anything again until the Charles Atlas scams in comic books (another disapointment).

You sound like the kind of sucker who'd stuff quarters into those machines in the Texaco bathrooms too! Boy, for 50 cents you could buy pleasure and paradise. Actually some of those things would work in a tackle box just as well, if you think about it. x:-) I think there was a cobalt blue one with silver bells and sequins.

No, never fell for those. By the time I was old enough to have a need for them I wasn't as interested in "launching my partner into orbit" as I was in not making bambinos.

I do agree that the contraption known as The Orbit Launcher resembles a jerk bait with some sort of rattle device You could very well catch bass with it.

Percy Priest at the public access area in Smyrna. I caught a whopper there last week. Fish a jitterbug with stop-twitch-go action around cover in late evening and WHAMMO it will look like a stick of dynamite exploded on the surface!

When I worked in Smyrna, I heard stories of things being "caught" at the parking areas near the lake but I don't think it was fish. Some of your other adjectives might have come into play though.
