Man, what a class act. The original class clown died yesterday at age 85. There was a special on television last night including five episodes in which he did his best work. I think we all have a little bit of this 'nut' in us, or we should have. Ernest T. Bass; may his delightfully insane self rest in peace. xclap

The rockthrower on the Andy Griffith show, Mayberry, the old guy who came out of the woods to steal the bride. Surely some of you grew up with Mayberry.

He and Carl Reiner were the backup performers for Your Show of Shows which starred Sid Caesar and Imogene Coca (Oh brother, do I suddenly feel old).

POPEYE

One of his favorite lines was, "It's me, it's me, it's Earnest T." He was in love with Charlene Darling from the hills and two of his greatest desires were to get a gold tooth and to wear a uniform.

He was in the Nutty Professor with Jerry Lewis, High Anxiety with Mel Brooks as well as doing voices for the Jetsons and the Flintstones.

I like his line to the stuffy old broad at the tea party, "No coffeeee or teeeee for meeeee, thank uuuuuuuuu." It took days of training to get him to that point of socialization. And Barney dressing in a wedding gown and veil as Charlene Darling......Ernest T thinking he was whisking 'her' away, while the real wedding went on...........fantastic, unmatched!

POPEYE

Wouldn't take anthing for my collection of videos from the Andy Griffith Marathons. Unless it's news or sports, I watch very little TV. They just don't make good clean wholesome sitcoms any more. I shudder to think what my grandchildren will be subjected to over the next few years.

I recently showed my 7 year old granddaughter the Andy Griffith episode with Ernest T, Charlene, and Barney (in the wedding dress). Ernest T immediately became her favorite and she wanted to see every episode with him. Sadly, I don't think there were too many episodes with him. Howard Morris was hugely talented and will be missed.
