Best News Anchor

Sad about Peter Jennings. We've lost several (for different reasons) lately. There have been many news anchors, but my all time favorite was Walter Cronkite. To me he really was the most trusted. Anyone else have a favorite?

I grew up listening to Walter Kronkite give the body-count every evening over TV Trays. I thought he was next to God. It wasn't until much later in life that I learned what a pure liberal he is. Same with Jennings. I used to think he was super till I learned more about his personal politics that he weaves into his news. I sorta trust the old guy who has temporarily replaced Rather, Bob what's-his-name.

But, they're all showmen and show-women. Laurie Dew is the biggest hoot, what with those weekly collagen shoot-ups! Sam Donaldson is the most irritating. Wolfgang Blitzer get's the 'floating turd in a punchbowl' award. And Larry King can't be counted as a newscaster...he's into endorsing prune juice and maalox.

Maybe I'd prefer Chet and David or maybe Harry Reasoner, although they were all probably died in the wool liberals. I once heard Eric Severied, LIVE, and he was very good. Probably nobody remembers him.

No, you're right! It's probably 'Dyed in the wool', and I reckon that means indelible. But, you would die if you had to wear wool underwear, for sure, even if you were a liberal.

I remember Jimmy Carter reminiscing about the most agonizing aspect of the Iran hostage situation was Walter Cronkite ending every daily news broadcast with the number of days since the hostages were taken.

I fell 'in love' with Tom Brokaw many many many years ago, didn't matter what he had to say I just like his voice and his face and oh heck maybe that's another reason I'm single.

Grew up watching Chet Huntley and David Brinkley, Walter Cronkite, John Chancellor (who was probably my all-time favorite), but for the last several years I've been watching Peter Jennings and preferred him precisely because he didn't show his liberal leanings, if indeed he has any. Despite what Fox says about being "fair and balanced" (yeah, if you're a right wing conservative), the only credible journalism is the type where it's impossible to discern the leanings of the anchors. Dan Rather wore his political feelings on his sleeve, which made him absolutely not credible. Jennings was more dignified, neutral, urbane, - guess the word I'm looking for is professional.

it may seem like a fake news program...but leave it to the daily show to point out inconsistancies and stupidity on both sides of the aisle!
