Wouldn't it be a worldwide 'event' if Billy Graham were also in the same stage as Pope John Paul. He is of similar age and I think with similar physical complications, and certainly of somewhat similar (yet diminished by numbers) religious notoriety and following. I would estimate that 60% or more of the world's population would be caught up in the combined event of both of their passing.

I will admit that watching the coverage of the Pope has made him much more real to me, since I am not Catholic. I suddenly have an appreciation for what he must mean to the millions and millions of Catholics across the world. It is indeed odd to hear a Cardinal on television praying outloud for God to take a person peacefully. I am certainly not trying to be flip or irreverant here. I'm awed by the whole thing.

I was raised a Catholic and the pope never even seemed "real" to me. I just never got the whole worship/adoration thing. See what years of parochial school can do for you?

I don't remember when it was, but I think I recall watching TV when the smoke came out of the smokestack indicating they had chosen a Pope and he died soon and then John Paul was announced with a puff of smoke. I'm sure we don't know the depth of the politics involved. The Pope could have been dead for two days now. These things they say he did today, like celebrating mass and accepting the resignation of bishops and ordaining other bishops, I just can't buy that. I have become much distrustful of people as I am about to turn 40. x:-)

The combined passing of both would almost be akin to the Rapture and I would have to think, "Holy sh*t, those were the only two? God help the rest of us!"
