When you have an "I Hate My Job" day, try this:

> On your way home from work, stop at your pharmacy and go to the thermometer section and purchase a rectal thermometer made by Johnson & Johnson. Be very sure you get this brand.
> When you get home, lock your doors, draw the curtains and disconnect the phone so you will not be disturbed. Change into very comfortable clothing and sit in your favorite chair, open the package and remove the thermometer.
> Now, carefully place it on a table or a surface so that it will not become chipped or broken. Now the fun part begins.
>Take out the literature and read it carefully. You will notice that in small print there is a statement, "Every rectal thermometer made by Johnson & Johnson is personally tested". Now, close your eyes and repeat out loud five times, "I am so glad I do not work in thermometer quality control at Johnson & Johnson."

A local radio show did a listener survey of the worst job out there. The winner was the guy that cleans the booths in the back of the adult bookstore.

I've always said that Imodium has to be the best invention of the current and last century. But, somewhere out there in the land of scientists, there are a couple of guys who did nothing for two solid years but collaborate on diarrhea. I vote for this one as among the worst.

PS: Popeye worries me. Just a bit, but still worries me.

That IS nasty. Did you check out oral thermometers to be certain of the test procedures for them??

And, as far as inventions go, I vote for the Thermos bottle. How do they build the intelligence into them so they can determine which foods to keep cold and which to keep warm???

Then again, I wouldn't want to be the guy who holds up the target for firing practice. I mean like, what if someone misses, or gee, maybe the bullet goes through or . . nevermind. Too much for me to think about. I gotta' go touch up my roots.

We have a very old bowling alley in the area; attendent bowling is an age honored tradition to this day.

My eldest daughter tried being a hotel chamber maid once while she was in high school. She was let go after 2 weeks because she was caught changing the sheets in between guests even though she was told not to if there weren't any stains on them.

Now the hotels leave notes asking you to save the environment and lay a card down to indicate that the sheets don't need to be changed.

I can see saving on the washing if you're staying more than one night. I know I'M clean but who knows the personal hygiene habits of the people sleeping there before me.

That's pretty common these days. We do it at our hotels. Most of the stayover guests (more than one night) are more than willing to participate, but there are those who still insist on clean, fresh linen every day... even though they are (supposedly) the only ones to sleep in the bed. No wonder our costs are going up.

Are you saying it's common at your place to NOT change the sheets when guests change, unless there are, as was put, stains on the sheets?

And to take it further, do hotels/motels not clean tubs unless there are 'things' in the tub and not clean toilets unless there are 'things' in the toilets?

I know I have quit walking around in motel rooms barefooted. Why do we think those carpets are dark and multi-colored so not a thing would show up on them?

Makes me really thankful I am not in HR at Johnson & Johnson. Don't think I would want to do any performance evaluations!
