What's in the Easter Egg dyes?

I was wondering; as I sit here and peel one of many hard boiled eggs that my kids and I dyed for Easter: What exactly is in those tablets that you drop in warm water to dissolve them before coloring eggs? After I peeled my egg, the white part was no longer white as it was speckled a dark pink from the dye that had seeped through. So I started wondering if it was something like "mechanically separtaed chicken" that's in a Slim Jim?
Perhaps it is best not knowing, then I won't get grossed out over dyed eggs. It took a long time for me to eat a Slim Jim again after learning about mechanically separated chicken. Still don't eat them very often at all.

By the way, Shadowfax, ever heard of "Da' Yoopers". I knew all them guys. Maybe that tells you something about me. Here's a story about Joe (Potila) Arkansas. I had been living in Minnesota for about 5 years and I went back to the UP for a wedding. The wedding was for Normy's daughter who also happened to be Joe's neice, so as a favor to Normy, Joe's group (Da' Yoopers) played the wedding. During a break, Joe came over to our table and said, "Hey, Larry, haven't seen ya' around. Where ya' been?" I said, "We moved to Minnesota 5 years ago, Joe." Joe was a helluva musician, but goofy like everybody else. I still am. My wife loves it when I say, "eh". But she especially likes when I make a batch of pasties.
Should we tell the rest of the group how to pronounce the word sauna? Sow-na, with the emphasis on the first syllable. Pork should like it, just like one of his mother pigs.
Now, the ones we can't find because we can't remember where we hid them; when they are eventually found - no, I won't eat those!
I think it's the law - that when you count your eggs and therefore keep track of how many eggs are hidden, it doesn't matter. The kids will only find 95% of whatever amount is hidden. THen the parents must strain their brains to re-trace the night before when they hid them and try to figure out which eggs haven't been found yet!
