John Wayne Gacy. He was the one who was real active in the community, dressing up as a clown and entertaining children at local hospitals and immersing himself in organizations such as the Jaycees, working to make his community a better place to live. He just had a 'thing' for teenage boys (at least 30 of them) and when done with them he'd bury them under his house.

This reminds me that Kinky Friedman has a theory about the connection between the name "Wayne" and serial killers. Thank God that a man of such great intellect is running for Governor. He nailed down my vote last week with one simple quote for the press: "A fool and his money are soon elected."

I didn't know he was running but hey if ole Dubya can get elected governor in the "Great State of Texas" than why the h*ll not Kinky Friedman! I like his thought on the death penalty:

"I'm not anti-death penalty. I'm anti-the wrong guy getting executed," Friedman said. "Two-thousand years ago we executed an innocent man named Jesus Christ and we don't want to make another mistake like that."

He's an author - with an attitude. Think Dave Barry meets Hunter S. Thompson, or Carl Hiassen. His books are hilarious.

I thought he wrote mysteries. Also, he has a rock band. In any case, I read that his bumper sticker reads "Why not kinky?"

He does write mysteries. Very, very odd mysteries that keep you chuckling.

Mainly mysteries, such as "Kill Two Birds and Get Stoned," but his latest book is a travel guide to Austin. I laughed all the way through it. This is where he discusses, among other things, serial killers named Wayne, appropos of nothing to do with touring Austin.

Before becoming a writer, he was frontman of Kinky Friedman and the Texas Jewboys. A medley of their hits would consist of "They Don't Make Jews Like Jesus Anymore" and (Don: this one's for you) "Get Your Biscuits in the Oven and Your Buns in the Bed."

A lesser known fact about Kinky is that he runs a rescue ranch for abandoned animals near the aptly-named town of Utopia in the Texas Hill Country.
