Ever have one of those days when you decide it would be fun to go on a short day trip and things go wrong? Things like getting lost then having your car battery go dead? It could almost ruin your day. I suppose the one thing that could save the day would be a free dinner.

"Lost" is a temporary condition. Every 7/11 from coast to coast has state maps and people inside who give directions. You gotta' check things like tires and batteries before you leave! You never know what can happen on trips. I say, BE prepared! (original, huh?)

Sam's advice is spot-on, Ray. Boring, but definitely sets forth the kinds of precautions one should take when hitting the road to travel across the street or across the nation. I would only add that this time of year, one should never forget emergency blanket, flashlight, candles, high-protein food bars, radio, cell phone, etc.

You know what makes me feel better when I've had a bad day? Buying something. Maybe socks... or shoes... Yeah. That's the ticket. x;-)

I knew you'd come through with just the right idea - new shoes. That will always make things better. But, what to get... loafers, formal tie ups, casual, ... the list goes on. Decisions, decisions. Maybe I'll just just buy some new jumper cables.

Jumper cables are good. A Triple-A membership is better.

As for shoes, you may have to buy a few pair. Can't wear loafers with a suit, so you'll need some oxfords. Can't go wrong with wingtips, but avoid the double-soled ones - too clunky. Ah, let's see.... a good deck shoe is always good for casual Fridays, but you are correct, sir - the list goes on and on. Woe are we poor males who are powerless to negotiate the turbulent waters of proper footwear. x;-)

Now that you mention it, my brown deck shoes are looking kind of ratty too. I hope Sam jumps in soon with some good advice.

I'm sooooo impressed!!! Apparently the pounding I've been taking over the infamous "shoe" thread has not been in vain! You guys are beginning to relate - there's hope!

As for the 'etc' in your emergency kit, throw in a portable DVD player and a bottle of wine; in the event your rescue is long-delayed. You might as well move to the back seat, get comfortable, be occupied, and stay warm.

Well, perhaps...I do seem to recall a "shoe" thread earlier this year where Ray claimed to have 7 pairs. Maybe he has added to his collection since then as a result of your "sensitivity" training crusade.

BTW...I'm adding a bottle of wine, soft blanket, a pair of comfortable black pumps and a box of Wheat Thins to my emergency road kit. x;-)
