Latest amazing union excuse

On Monday, an ee was told by his supervisor to stop talking and go to his machine. His response was to tell the supervisor where to go and then hit the supervisor in the face. Obviously he was fired.

Today, the union came to discuss this ees case. They did not disagree with the facts. They wanted us to understand certain facts. The ee had had an argument with his wife. The police had already been called in several times because he hit his wife. He was afraid that if he hit her again, that this time she would press charges.
Therefore, we should understand that it is better that he took out his anger on his supervisor(who is also a male) rather than a helpless female. They, also, asked that I not be involved because I was woman and couldn't understand a man's point of view. To make a long story short, they are consulting with their attorney to see if it pays to go arbitration. And I thought I heard everything.

Hey, makes sense to me. I had a similar situation recently. An ee loudly cussed out his supervisor publicly. We terminated. But, his excuse was he and his wife (also an ee here) were considering a split and he was so distraught he had no idea what he said to the supervisor. He expected us to take into account his marital problems and reconsider. We didn't.

Having been in that environment, I won't bet a nickel on how this might go. Just imagine if his wife had forced celibacy on him for six months what they might ask you to overlook.

That is so insane it almost makes my head explode. I hope the supervisor presses criminal charges for assault and files a civil suit for damages against this lunatic.

Are you talking about the ee or the union rep?

The ee. I realize this is wishful and probably unrealistic thinking on my part, but it's satisfying to imagine people getting what they deserve.

My husband works for a large delivery service company. He is always telling me about drivers who get fired only to have the union come in and get the drivers' jobs back for them. How is this right? Glad we too don't have a union where I work. I would be very upset to have to terminate someone only to have them back at work shortly thereafter. What a way to run a business.

For the abuser...poor thing... was afraid he might get arrested...whatever...only COWARDS hit woman. For the union reps...you may want to give them drug tests because they obviously are on something...

I'm late seeing this post, but can't resist sharing an experience I had with a union . . .

An employee was seen stealing product from the warehouse, then seen reselling the product. He even admitted to all of the above. We termed, union took it to arbitration. The arbitrator ruled that our employee handbook said he couldn't buy product with employee discount and resell it, but it didn't say he couldn't steal it and resell it. We were ordered to reinstate him and pay back wages. The thought of him in our warehouse again was so repugnant we ended up buying him off for a ridiculous 6-figure amount.

That arbitrator should be shot. It's obvious he was in the Union's back pocket. I would have reported this theft to the police and had the employee arrested.
