I’m going to Austin, Texas next week for meetings, anyone know of any exciting activities taking place next week in Austin, not counting the meetings I’m obligated to attend? Tuesday night is taken up but I have Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evening.

Besides the weirdness it is just a gorgeous city, would live there if possible. Great music scene and dining; and there are probably non weird activities just not as easy to spot or maybe I wasn't looking.
Have fun! Perfect weather time of year as well we've cooled off to the mid to upper 80s.

(Judy, where do you live?)
I briefly scanned the entertainment news this morning and didn't see anything out of the ordinary; however, the customary and usual offerings around here will provide you with plenty of options. Of your free nights, Thursday will be your best bet for live music, but since I don't know what kind of music you like I hesitate to make a suggestion; plus, this week's listings only go through next Wednesday. Just check out those websites and use the newspaper once you get here. Have fun.
If nobody out there has heard the new Ray Charles release, "Genius Loves Company", man go buy it. Send it to a girlfriend or a boyfriend or a secret love. This is going to be a real classic. The people who accompany him on these songs are awesome: Norah Jones, James Taylor, Diana Krall, Elton John, Natalie Cole, Bonnie Raitt, Willie Nelson, Michael McDonald, B.B.King, Gladys Night, Johnny Mathis and Van Morrison. If this one don't get you between the sheets, you need counseling. Sorry for hijacking this thread.
Monday night, two choices –
1. Head to the Continental Club on SoCo (South Congress) and see Dale Watson for some authentic rockabilly/country. Don’t know the opener (Paris 49) but Dale is good.
2. Got to the Saxon Pub, 1320 S. Lamar and enjoy Matt the Electrician. Heard him/them on the radio recently and they sounded great. Might check that out myself.
Wednesday, two more possible winners:
1. Visit Speakeasy (420 Congress, behind in the alley) and groove to The Brew.
2. Hit Artz Rib House (2230 S. Lamar) and chow down on some barbecue while enjoying Shelly King, singer-songwriter.
Like I said, don’t know about Thursday yet but you can figure that out when you get here.
Rock on, Safety-man!
