Convention's Over!

Thank heavens the convention's over.

I was pleasantly surprised by the content of what Kerry had to say, but boy, does he need help on his delivery. I've seen wind-up toys that possess more natural-looking gestures.

Now if we can just muddle through the Republicans' extravaganza next month we can all get back to some serious mudslinging.

Can't wait to hear what Bush has to say - see how many words he manages to invent during his speech. "Strategery" is still my favorite. x:-)

  • I'm not sure which is funnier. Inventing words or inventing war injuries. Or inventing new positions each morning depending on the wind direction. I'm sure there's strategery in all of them.
  • Hey Beag, if you want, I'll give you a first hand expose' while I'm in NYC for the convention.
  • You're a delegate? Cool!

See if you can catch Dubya doing something embarassing or Cheney telling someone to, well, you know. x:-)
  • I would love to see who could out yell whom if you had Cheney and Teresa together! x}>

And yes I am a delegate. Hey Whatever, drop by and I'll personnally escort you around.
  • Slogan- thanx for the offer. However, I'm a democratic liberal from NY. My understanding is we will not be allowed anywhere near the Republicans.
  • Enjoy...I, however, have no intention of going to Manhattan during the convention.
  • Usually when we see these big sales promotions there are incentives to buy such as if you buy during this program you can a second one free or they knock off the 4th payment. I kept hearing that help was on the way but I must have missed the big incentive for buying now. Did anyone else see what it was?
  • Allegedly, tax relief for those making less than $200,000 a year (I'll believe it when I see it) - and a set of Ginsu steak knives. x;-)

But more appealing than that (to me anyway) is less shoot-from-the-lip gunboat diplomacy (and before anyone starts frothing at the mouth, remember, we're all entitled to our opinions) x:-)
  • I was trying to get my house clean for weekend guests..I kept hoping the help on the way meant someone was going to send me a maid.
  • Call Kerry's HQ and ask 'em. I'm sure they'll accommodate, Sonny. x:-)
  • I don't know - kind of enjoyed watching him get going, get more natural. He was pretty wind-up doll to begin with, but I thought he settled in nicely.

Thought the first two lines would have made a great closing. Maybe they thought it sounded too "American President"-ish (the movie, "My name is Andrew Shepherd and I AM the President.")

Why are you all looking at me funny? Nobody knows what I'm talking about, huh?

  • I don't know, Leslie. Sure, he became a little more comfortable as he got into it, but I think he really needs a speech coach. Even at the end I thought he was pretty stiff.
  • This could be total bull, but I heard on a program this morning that there is a group of NAM Swiftboat veterans (with a website I forgot) who are about to come forward next month with a whole lot of detail on his self inflicted injury and another one that was a minor cut on the back of his hand with his C.O. refusing to agree to put him up for the Purple Heart, so he lobbied for it and got it. The report also said that the man who said he jumped in and saved his life was bogus and it would be proven. As I said, could be total bunk, but good drama. The drumroll is on.

And before the gallery shouts, "At least he served!", that's not the point. The point is finding the truth. The truth shall eventually out, and he may well BE telling the truth. I'll reserve judgement.

I'd hate to think my abilities today would be based on things I did at age 20 and that goes for either candidate also.
  • The book is UNFIT FOR DUTY. It should be out in 1-2 weeks, but can be ordered now and I believe from Amazon. I will know for sure after tonight because I will be ordering it.

My own thought is Kerry may have been able to act more animated during the convention and even now with his road show, but personally I don't want a "pretty boy" president. I want an honorable man who cares if I live or die.
  • AAGGHH!! I have not been able to access the forum all day, I kept erroring out. but now I'm home, so here's my firsthand account, as a resident of the hosting city.

Military and all kinds of police everywhere - a lttle weird but I thought that was ok because of the eye-candy factor, they look so handsome in uniform =P~.

Fireworks at midnight - yes, thats right, midnight. I was awoken from a dead sleep and thought the city was under attack :-S.

I live in a heavy tourist area that was a virtual ghost town this past week - the mayor and other officials said to stay out of the city and everyone listened, causing restaurants and cafes to lose 50-90% of their normal business. And now the mayor is calling on residents to go out into the neighborhoods this weekend and spend money - as if we can possibly make up for a week's worth of tourism.

Some of the protesters are still hanging around, they're going to the Dead show tomorrow night x;-) .

I had to keep my TV at an eardrum blowing volume because the helicoptors and fighter jets were over my apartment 24/7.

Because I walk to work, I was not subjected to the bag searches on the T. But there was a FEMA guy searching through all the garbage on the curb last night, that was something to see.

So, in terms of security, it was a success, we were well prepared. But I know I am not the only Bostonian who felt pushed aside, ignored and downright abused. Fireworks at midnight - did I mention it was a Monday?
