Rock Trivia?

Allright you classic rockers - I was singing along to the Guns'n'Roses remake of 'Knockin' on Heaven's Door' when a co-worker came by to 1) laugh at me 2) ask if I knew who originally did that song and how many artists have done remakes. He can not remember the name of the original artist.

Can anyone help us out?

Thats what I thought but my friend swears there was someone before him.

I believe Dylan was the first, but I think Kris Kristofferson also did a cover of it.

There is a version that the Indigo Girls perform that has a third verse in it but Bob didn't do three, only two.

Well, maybe it was the band. Or maybe it was the repetition. Or maybe it was that second hand smoke. I thought he did it well. It was a great song with which to sit in a big soft chair and close your eyes and rock and think about wanting breakfast at 3 a.m. xB-) I think Lay Lady Lay was next on the album. HRQ might ask, "What's an album?"

Yahoo, don't mistake his "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" voice with his "Everybody Must Get Stoned" voice - two entirely different sounds. I have heard that when he recorded Knockin' on Heaven's Door and Lay, Lady, Lay, it was after he had quit smoking cigarettes and his singing voice had cleared out and mellowed.

You both may have a point. Second-hand smoke & 3 a.m. munchies might make a difference and his voice was better in those two songs than in "Everybody Must Get Stoned."
