With all the sadness and trauma going on in the world at the moment, it is worth reflecting on the death of a very important person who almost went unnoticed this past month.

Larry La Prise, the man who wrote "The Hokey Pokey," died peacefully at age 93.

The most traumatic part for his family was getting him into the coffin. They put his left leg in, and then the trouble started.

Coincidentally, the kids in the classroom next to our offices were doing the Hokey Pokey, VERY LOUDLY, right about the time I received the HP story in an email.

I remember doing the hokey pokey in rollerskates. Every last Thursday of the month in 4th-6th grade my elementary school had an evening skating party at the local rink. Darn good times. I never did learn how to "shoot the duck" though.

I've got a 10 guage and if I ever get strong enough to lift the darn thing, my husband will show me how to shoot it! He's very brave.

A co-worker was dating a young woman who attended a small, local Bible college. The bible college held a "skate night" at a nearby rink. My friend escorted his special lady to the event for a night of good clean fun.

During the evening, the skating action halted and everyone joined for a rousing round of "the Hokey Pokey". Somewhere while hokeying and pokeying my friend (in skates) slipped and broke his leg.

The relationship fizzled out soon after...
