Haven't seen Gillian in a while. I was worried about him (and the other west/left coasters) because of the fires. Hope all are well.

Smoke and ash cover my house in Riverside, which is just south of San Bernardino - the fires are 20 miles away. I work in north San Diego county, which is worse, and the stink gets inside ao there is no escape. Last Saturday, the sky was so dark at 12:30 pm early afternoon , that the street lights came on.

Sigh- I asked for snow, and we get ash falling like snow!

Chari, I have been worrying about SoCal for days now. I hope you and rest down South that we have not heard from - HRSage, Gillian - are okay. It's just terrible and so sad. Please take care.

I'm about 40 minutes away from the nearest fire, but the ashes are all over us. On Sunday the sky had an eerie post-apocalyptic orange glow. We have a few managers that live really close to the fires, but so far they are all okay. Some of the fires are starting to burn themselves out, but there is a lot of damage in the rural SoCal areas.

We appreciate everyone's concern, hopefully it will all be over soon.

Just busy restarting my consulting practice, selling my house and moving. Closest fire to our house is about 40 miles, about 15 from the new place.

I heard on the radio this AM that the fires are traveling 6000-8000 acres per HOUR. That seems like an awful lot. I hope they can get this under control soon.

Hope all goes well and they get this thing under control. The wind this past weekend is what whipped this thing up into a frenzy. I know Arizona is sending 100 fire fighters to combat the flames. Just hope it does some good.

Thanks for your concerns. It might rain today or tomorrow. Hopefully so. My heart goes out to those in Julian, which is in the mountains SE of Escondido. On the way home yesterday, I looked at the horizon and my heart sank, in those and above those mountains - was a huge towering mushroom cloud of ash and smoke. All those firemen/women are true HEROES/HEROINES !

Is it true that the fire was started by a guy with a flare gun? If so, unbelievable.

Cyndy, I believe there were three separate fires to start with. One was started by a flare gun and the other two are suspected arson. The fires have split and merged so that there is fire on so many fronts that it is not manageable. So far the fires have coverd more than 634,000 acres, 2400 homes lost, 20 dead and losses exceeding $2 billion and no end in sight.

Wow, so sorry to all those having to deal with this. Saw a soundbite with the new guv elect Arnold in Washington next to his uncle in law, interesting speaker, (using the term loosely).
