In mourning...

I am heartbroken. I just heard that Robert Palmer died of a heart attack yesterday at the young age of 54 (same as John Ritter). That is one musician who had style and class. I still remember seeing him at a small venue in Connecticut (was in one of the front 3 rows), then seeing him outside the venue and saying hi. He will be missed by me, that's for sure.

Although I'm afraid to ask, because I may be an outcast from the rest of you, BUT what is some of his famous work, maybe then it will ring a bell with me. His name is familiar but I can't place it right now. Sorry. x:-8

Don't worry mijindra I won't shun you, you can't remember everything after all. Robert Palmer was probably biggest in the late '80s, and his best known hit song was probably "Addicted to Love" He also became known for his videos which featured, tall, thin, identically dressed, made up, and expressionless model types as his backup band. Does any of this ring a bell for you?

And yes, it is too bad. He was very talented, and definately had style that is lacking today.

Oh man, I AM embarrassed. I'm a huge 80's fan and completely blanked. Actually, as soon as I read your post about Robert Palmer, I thought of that funky video with the "similiarly-dressed" women, (the video that Shania Twain copied just a few years ago), but would never have guessed that he could be gone!

He had a great voice and he will be missed.

I was shocked by the news too! I love 80's music & Robert Palmer was definitely a good one! Simply Irresistable was my favorite. Is it just me, or do we seem to have lost an inordinate amount of celebrities (Hollywood or otherwise) this year?

I read it in this past Sunday's Boston Globe. It was the guy who played Beaver's friend Whitey, Stanley Fafara.

I hadn't heard about Whitey's death. That's tragic. There was an article on him in the Sunday Oregonian a few months ago. He has been homeless for some years and fighting addictions. When the Oregonian wrote the article he was living in a skid row hotel here in Portland. How sad.

I think it just seems that way, during the emmy's they had a montage and it was quite heartbreaking.

Robert Palmer also sang with the band PowerStation which had two members from Duran Duran (John and Andy Taylor) and the drummer from Chic. On tour, Robert had other commitments and they ending up touring with Michael DeBarres. I missed not seeing Robert, so that is why I went to his concert. Small intimate venue, he wore a suit the entire night. Great voice! I still remember the opening act, a band named Mental As Anything.

I was about to say.....Doesn't Blanda still have the record for the most number of touchdown passes in a game, seven? And the longest field goal record? I knew George Plimpton.....and he ain't no Blanda.

Tom Dempsey had the long field goal record... he was the guy missing half his kicking foot.

Blanda played until he was 48, and played well.

The Broncos kicker tied that record a couple of years ago, in the thin air at Mile High stadium. 61 yards I think.

Oooooh, Mental as Anything is an Australian band that hails from the eighties also, a great fun party band to see - seems a strange mix with Robert Palmer though!
I was also very saddened to hear about Robert Palmer, I saw him purely by accident in a very small venue in London when a friend and I went into the wrong bar to meet friends - we were very late eventually meeting the others as we stayed to watch Robert Palmer - they were furious we didn't go and find them so they could see also - but then we would have missed the show...

I was driving my daughter and her friend to dance class last night and I let them put their station on the radio. The DJ announced that in her humble opinion, Robert Palmer was just okay, but he was still way better solo than when he was with Emerson and Lake.

I almost drove off the road.

My daughter doesn't see why that teeny little mistake should be an indictment against an entire generation. Harumph.
