Did you see it?

I looked up in the late evening (or early morning) sky and there it was, a beautiful peach colored very bright star! I just only wish I had a telescope to view it even closer.

How many of you have seen Mars? Do you have a telescope? If so, please tell us what you saw.

My husband and I saw it last night with a telescope. It was a little dissapointing. It looked like a little glowing red ball. There was no definition - just a red ball.

Last week I attended a meeting at ATK Tactical Systems where the MES (Mars Exploration System) was developed. The video was actually more intriquing than the telescope. The MES was featured in our local newspaper. If you care to look at the article, the newspaper is the "Cecil Whig." You could do a search and find the article on line.

Thanks for that, I will look it up. According to the local paper, you should be able to see 'surface features' meaning red areas because of rusted iron in the soil, dark patches because of dark rocks (duh!), and bright white areas that are the ice caps.

Maybe the telescope wasn't of the correct magnification? I read on Yahoo last night that you had to have a certain type of telescope to see the surface features. Our local paper also mentions the times that locations (such as schools or observatories) with large telescopes are offering viewings so to speak. I might just have to check one of them out. I just think it's fascinating!

They just released a report this week stating that the "ice caps" are not ice at all, and that there probably has never been water on Mars. Guess my Martian Villa is not to be!!!!!!

Unfortunately, we had a cloud cover and didn't see a thing. I did get to have fun with my SO. He was starting to set roots in his recliner when I called for him to see the event. I called into him that it was just like they said - it looked just like a plane. As he was jumping up, I told him it sound just like one too! Sorry, I don't have much fun in life.

I saw it finally last night. It is beautiful!! It is supposed to be the brightest tonight. I have a pair of binoculars that make it seem like it is way closer. But I just thought it was so cool and amzing how we can see so much with the naked eye! When Venus is visible I also get excited. I just think it is beautiful!

Everyone start stocking up on bottled water and saltines... this is exactly how they got it in "War of the Worlds." The martians waited until the planet passed very close to earth, then... xpray
