Lexus or BMW?

I know this is silly but! Both of these cars are very nice but drive slightly differently. One of my coworkers asked me my opinion, he wants to get the BMW X5 or the Lexus 330. I said the BMW! I guess we are paying this guy too much! Whats are your thoughts?

I'd go with the BMW. Our VP has two Lexuses (Lexi?) and I really don't like the guy, so that is good enough for me. Actually, I have been a BMW fan since the days of the Bavaria and 2002Tii back in the mid-70's.

My son used to work for a company where everyone above entry level drove a BMW, a Lexus, or a Mercedes. They were all overpaid, too and went bankrupt.

Some day when I'm overpaid, I'll get a BMW.

You're right. You are paying him too much. Where I work you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a Beemer or a Lexus, so my vote would be for a Yugo. x;-)

Decisions, decisions, decisions! Poor guy. To be honest, I don't know if I could ever pay that kind of money for a car. I'd rather drive something practical and use that money for vacations, or investments, or something. I vote Nissan!

I don't think I could fit myself, husband, two children, two carseats, two strollers, diapers, wipes, fresh undies (child's, not mine) and three thousand Happy Meal toys in anything smaller than my 2002 Dodge Caravan.

I figure that for the next 15 years as my boys grow, my vehicles will get bigger, not smaller. Ford Excursion, here I come! x;-)

Well, I am certainly not overpaid but I traded in my 98 Olds Intrigue last November and bought a "pre-owned" (I don't know why they use that term. Afterall, it's just a used car) 1999 Lexus RX 300. I love it! My kids have left the nest and since I can't have a TR6 (how's that for showing my age)...... And I believe there is a Toyota plant in Tennessee so I feel like I bought American.

I wouldn't go for either of these, if I were overpaid I'd have a Hummer. If I have to have something obscenely over-priced, pretentious and self-important, I'd probably get a Viper.

Darn, I have to choose one of the others? BMW.

We are a two family Lexus and have never owned a BMW, so I can't compare the two. Our Lexus RX 300 (the SUV) is a great vehicle. We drove every ding-dong SUV made before we bought this one and it had the smoothest ride of any SUV. We actually bought the SUV because we have two dogs we thought would enjoy the extra room, but alas, they still want to ride in my lap (thank goodness they are Yorkshire terriers and not Labs!).

I drive a Lexus SC 400 (they don't make them anymore). It's very impractial for anyone but two people as you have to be a paraplegic to ride in the backseat which I refer to as a "shelf". It is a sports car that can blow just about anything else off the road, so I have to be careful with my leadfoot.
Since my car is getting some age on it, I will probably have to replace in a few years, but have no idea what to replace it with. It will probably be something a little more gas efficient though.

Seriously, it helps not having human children to feed, clothe, educate, buy their cars, pay their credit card bills, bail them out of jail, pay for therapy (parents), pay for weddings,divorces, raising grandchildren, etc.......

Hey! I used to have an MG-B. Neat little cars - really enjoyed driving it. Alas, I married an "oversized male" and had to get a larger car.

Yeah, I know. Even though the kids are grown up an on their own, my wife insists on sending money to them. I'm just jealous.

Take the money and buy two cars. One, a midnight blue 1964 Pontiac GTO with personalized plate MJAGGER. The other, a 1956 Ford convertible, Red and white, white interior with dice hanging from the mirror and a retro-fit after market 8-track tape player - Patsy Cline and Buddy Holley tapes. Either of these will be more fun than the other alternatives, will get you more attention, will be more valuable in the long run, will get more back-seat action and will make you instantly much younger. Insurance will be lots cheaper too. Someone would just steal the Beemer or Lexus anyway. What are you people thinking anyway?

Course, that would eliminate the back seat action.

I saw a prototype of the new Bel Air. Was really, really nice. Supposed to be out in 2005 - which is conveniently when the lease is up on the Monte Carlo!

Don, you are half right. I fell in love with the 64 GTO's when they were new. Tried to get my dad to buy one, but he bought a 4 door Tempest instead. GTO's were my favorite muscle cars. I will agree that mid-50's cars are on the top of my list - but it has to be a 55 Chevy Bel Air. No Fords.


Leslie, the Monte Carlo is technically American - it is made in Canada.

I have a poster on the wall behind me of a 57 Ferrari Testa Rosa. Not very practical for the northeast. I also have pictures of a 57 Chevy, 57 Vette, 67 Vette and my old 79 Malibu street machine.

The Canandians I know would tell you that cars made in Canada are Canadian cars and to heck with the technicality.

You're right. And they would say "heck," too, because Canadians are unfailingly polite. Must be all the mayonnaise they put on everything. x;-) Before I anger the Gods, I should point out that my family comes from Canada, so I can make fun. To an extent. x;-)

My mother in-law has a 2003 Jag, black, its a beautiful car but she has had to have the transmission replaced twice in less than nine months! May she got a lemon but it has turned me off to that brand!

Since I got myself into trouble on another thread by being politically incorrect - and with no help from Parabeagle - I wasn't going to step in it here, too and offend the Canadians and make Leslie even angrier. Usually, when people think of American cars, they mean made in the good ole US of A. So, using that criteria, the Monte Carlo is a foreign car. Sorry, Leslie. Actually, one of the cars with the highest USA built content is the Toyota Camry.

Personally I think the mayo thing is genetic and I inherited that trait. As a kid, I used to love eating mayonnaise sandwiches on white Wonder Bread (Best Foods only, of course).
