What to do with all those coffee mugs?

Can anyone think of a creative use for all those extra coffee mugs you've collected over the years? Our vendors, temp agencies and clinic like to bring us gifts and usually there is a coffee mug involved. I've found they don't sell well at yard sales. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I have one that holds pens, one that holds permanent markers and one that holds dry erase markers. I have also given them to our receptionist and our switchboard operators. I do happen to use one or two of them as well. Since they are here and all.

Somehow, make them seem to be of value, but forget them in the lunch room. They'll disappear. No one will ever know where they went.

I've used that lunchroom trick before. In fact, I intend on bringing clothes that don't sell in my yard sale this weekend to leave in the lunchroom.

Believe me....everything you put in a lunchroom will disappear. If all else fails, I take all the useless mugs, etc. to Goodwill or Salvation Army.

Since someone congratulated me recently on my 100th post, Congratulations! Obviously, we haven't had enough posts for Forumites to be speculating about our appearance, though. I'm certain that's a good thing.

I know, we're always looking for donations from the vendors for gifts at the Christmas party. Imagine an ee's surprise when they win a prize at the party and Voila! Coffee Mug!

Why not start an new HR tradition (there's an oxymoron)? -- a "Coffee Cup Tree!" (Get it: like a "Bottle Tree")? If you put one up near the door into your office, and hang your cup collection, one to a branch, it might just keep the evil spirits away who keep bothering us with their promotional coffee cups and other stuff.

Okay, so maybe I'm a bit weird today! It's summer, and I'd rather be fishing....

I have a shelf in my office and I just line 'em up. One for my paperclips, another for my pens, pencils, etc. It seems they multiply.

When my older daughter set up her own apartment, she took quite a few. When my younger one left for college, I got rid of a few more.

I have tried to give them away, but everyone I know has the same overflowing supply of coffe mugs. Everyone has given good answers, but I was looking for a little more creative ones...like breaking the mugs and using the pieces for mosaic tile tables, mosaic frames for mirrors, gluing them to a work bench and using them to store nuts and bolts, somehow incorporate them into the garden. I don't know...somehow people are able to incorporate bathtubs, toilets and old tires into the garden, why not coffe mugs? A windchime made of coffee mugs? Any other ideas? The idea of the coffee mug tree isn't bad. Maybe we can send all our spare mugs to Don.

Take all of the prettier mugs , and put them on the edge of the roof on your house...betcha it will get a lot of attention ! And be unique, too...

Donate them to a school in your area. Those teachers can have the children make absolutely anything out of someone else's trash. The kids can paint them, cover them with textural stuff, etc.

I swear tears have come to my eyes when my boys give me a mothers day gift made out of a toilet paper roll with buttons glued to it. I'm sure I'd get teary if they gave me an old coffee mug with tempera paint all over it.

OR - on an incredibly frustrating day, take a whole batch out to the dumpster. Chuck 'em in one by one. Smashing stuff in a harmless way makes you feel better, doesn't it? Be sure to wear safety goggles so you don't have to complete a W/C indicent report on yourself. I also have visions now of a Letterman-type activity, dropping mugs from the roof of a tall building. I guess that wouldn't be safe, would it?

Not sure what the staff would think watching the crazy HR lady or guy losing it out by the trash dumpster or chucking mugs from the roof.
