I'm going through my mail and come across the quarterly publication called the Reporter from the SSA/IRS. As I scan it, my eye catches the headline, "Information for Employers Paying Wages to Illegal Aliens". It's a 3 column piece and the more I read the more incredible it becomes. The article is a summary of employer's responsibility of collecting and reporting taxes paid to illegals.

It goes on to say that we MUST withhold income tax, social security and Medicare taxes in the same manner as US citizens, including the employer matches. Next sentence, and I quote, "Wages paid to illegal aliens are subject to social security and Medicare taxes even though the illegal aliens are not eligible for social security benefits. What is wrong with this picture? Is it just me? I thought it was illegal to hire illegal aliens. OR..... is the SSA and the IRS tellin us 2 wrongs make 1 right?

No, they're telling you that people in HR are a lot smarter than the people who write this regs.

Or... don't hire them, but if you do they want a kickback, commission, piece of the action, their cut... I always get those terms mixed up.

Actually this is written as a warning to all those living in the DC beltway since that is where most of the illegals are hired, by the politicians. It's simply written, as Al Gore would say, so there will now be a controlling legal authority.
