Neil Diamond

LAST EDITED ON 10-23-02 AT 10:12AM (CST)[p]Have any of you seen Neil Diamond in concert lately? He will be in Kansas City in December and I'm considering buying tickets. I feel it could go either way. Either he will be burned out and his performance will be lackluster x:-(, or I will be on my feet and singing Cracklin' Rosie and Sweet Caroline all night.:DD I appreciate any input.

• One of my coworkers went to his concert last year and was totally satisfied with his performance. She didn't get home until 1:30 am but felt it was worth it! I haven't heard anything bad about his concerts--he's still got it!
• Sorry, I don't know about Neil Diamond, but if you ask me how a Jimmy Buffett concert is, well I could right you a book. Its a flocking thing.
• Roberta:
I saw Neil D. about 3 mos ago and he rocked the house with his performance. He continues to perform with the same enthusiasm he did 20 yrs ago.
• Run, walk or crawl if you have to. Don't miss it!
• Before you head out in the wheelchair, tho, be sure to grab your false teeth out of the jelly jar. Just kidding! Would love to see him myself, if they wouldn't put me so far from the stage. (Does he still stand on stage, or is there an appropriate rocker for him?)
• Don, please turn up your hearing aid. Then it will not make any difference how far from the stage they seat you unless your eye sight is gone too. Those were the days my friend, we thought they'd never end..............
• Whose is older Tom Jones or Neil Diamond?
• Geeeeeeezzzzzzzzzzeeee! x:o
• LAST EDITED ON 10-23-02 AT 03:45PM (CST)[p]It depends on which 'counselor' at the hair club you ask. Tom Jones wore tighter pants, thus his ability to reach the really high notes, and, Tom was more of a flash in the pan, albeit one who came and went several times. Neil has hung on as 'The Man' and neither followed Liberace's example. But isn't your question of age a bit like asking: Who was older - David Crosby or Jerry Garcia? Who cares? Both were/are dynamite. By the way, this weekend marked the 25th anniversary of the plane crash in which most of the Lynard Skynnard band were killed flying from South Carolina, over MS, enroute to Baton Rouge. I recall vividly sitting in my den in Natchez, Mississippi talking on a CB base station and all of a sudden people in the McComb area breaking in talking about a plane full of long-hairs crashing on the way to Baton Rouge. It's chilling now to recall how a bunch of us in a 200 mile radius sat up and talked about it most of the night.
• Don - It seems you have a long addiction to chatting with people you don't know...first on a CB radio and now on HR Forum. Good way to get into some interesting conversations. Is there an award for people that have over 1000 posts? There should be. Something I've always wanted to ask you...where do you find the time for so many postings?

The first three or four comments to my question gave me the motivation I needed. I'm going to order my tickets and go to the concert. xclap One of the first cassettes I ever purchased when I was in 2nd grade was his "Heartlight" album. I guess I've been a fan ever since. And that's been over 20 years. I'll probably be one of the younger fans at the show, but that's ok. Age is in attitude and I enjoy hanging out with people that are older than I am, especially when they are young at heart. My boyfriend is 10 years older than I am. He's 40. Usually when people guess his age they say anywhere between 25 and 35.

Here's a question for all of you...if you didn't know your age, how old would you think you were?

• Ahh.. I have fond memories of listening to Neil singing the soundtrack to Jonathan Livingston Seagull when I was only 10 or 11 years old and thinking it was the most dramatic, heart wrenching music I had ever heard.

Now I live on the coast and all my romantic notions of seagulls are totally gone.

• AFter reading the above posts it seems like we are all a bunch of old foggies! :-) Enjoy the concert.
• Its actually rather easy for talented people to do multiple tasking, as most people in HR know. JUST KIDDING. I don't find it problematic at all, though, to be on line listening for the little bell to tell me there are new forum postings and emails with phones ringing and traffic in and out of my office and conferences being held and paper moving and interviews being had and decisions being debated and manuals being rewritten, all almost simultaneously, Do You? High octane, High energy, type A personalities typically have that gene and don't go through the day single tasking or sedate, with a finite 'To-Do list'. The number of postings one has is about as relevant as the age of Neil Diamond, or your boyfriend, for that matter. If you feel I don't contribute, that's what you should say rather than critique my time management. It's one thing to enjoy electronically 'talking with' people we don't know. It's quite another to try to 'long distance analyze' them. P.S: I also occasionally ride motorcycles for several hours with people I don't personally know, initially. It might be like sitting in a concert with 2000 people you don't know but having a common thread and enjoying it all the same.

In response to this question, here's a story for you.

When they did the census two years ago (think it was 2 yrs), the census man rang my doorbell on a Saturday afternoon and I was in the middle of feeding my 4yr old daughter lunch. I ran to the door to answer it and the nice gentleman looked at me and asked me if my mommie was home. Now let me give you a little background about myself. I am only 4' 11" tall, not much taller than the 4th graders in my daughters school. I stood there dumb founded with the question, wanting to be a smart a-- but thinking better of it. Well my nosy rosy 4yr old came running up behind me with my growling black lab behind her (he doesn't like strange men coming to the door when my husband isn't home)screaming...."MOMMIE MOMMIE WHO IS AT THE DOOR, IS IT COMPANY?"
I looked at the census man and he was crimson. I told him no, my mommie doesn't live here but her mommie does. Can this mommie help you with something? He didn't quite know what to say, so he shoved a flyer in my PB&J covered hand and told me I looked really busy, please call the number on the flyer and give them your information.

I smiled the rest of the day!

• My goodness! All this talk about Neil Diamond...

Either I'm much younger than the crowd around here, or I live in an area where Neil Diamond is so far off the radar, that there wasn't radar when he left!
• Talking about Neil Diamond at work is ok. Dressing like him at work might not be.
• Who is Neil Diamond??? x:-/

Just kidding...I'm not quite that young. Although my little brother (13 years younger) didn't have a clue who Michael Jackson was when he came up in conversation the other day (not that he's missing out on much!).

• Probably for the best that he never know who Michael Jackson is!!!

• The tip off was in the Thriller video when Michael says "I'm not like the other guys."

• We regularly hold employee karaoke contests, and we have a guy who does Neil Diamond. Last year at the first contest after 9/11 he brought the house down with "America." Guess he used to do a lounge act in a little Reno casino. Anyway, we had to make him a judge, because he just kept winning. Funny thing - he's been doing this so long, he wears his hair like Neil, and kind of dresses like him. Anyway, he's a lot cheaper to go see than the real Neil!
• Just wanted to update everyone on the concert. It was last Friday. It wasn't as loud or as raw as I would have liked, but hey, it's Neil and you can't beat that. He sang all the right songs and my friend and I were singing and dancing along. The funniest part of the concert was when he was singing "Girl, You'll be a Woman Soon" and he let a woman approach the stage. He was serenading her and pratically making love to her hand as he was rubbing it all over his face and lips. My friend and I were fighting over the binoculars and saying things like, "He's kissing her!" "Hey! Lemme see! Woah! He's STILL kissing her.!" "Lemme see!" He said, "Is that your husband that you're with? Just a friend? Oh, your boyfriend." Then he looked over to the boyfriend and smoothly said, "She's ready for you now." My friend and I gasped and she stated, "Woah! He's smooth talker 5000!"
• LAST EDITED ON 12-30-02 AT 04:22PM (CST)[p]I really hate to disillusion you, but the woman whose hand he was kissing is his girlfriend and the guy that she is standing with is a member of his entourage - it happens at every show.
I have been lucky enough to see Neil Diamond in Sydney & Melbourne, Australia and also at Madison Square Garden. The Madison Square Garden show was not long after September 11 and was probably the best show I have ever seen, as everyone there really got into the whole mood, especially when he started with America. He may be getting on in years but is still a wonderful performer with a great voice, although in Australia there is a lounge bar singer who does a great impersonation of him, and like mentioned in an earlier posting is a lot cheaper to see.
• But, with one difference. The lounge singer in Sidney is kissing the hand of the man in his entourage! You broke many a woman's heart today JKK with your revelation. American women are real serious about their fantasies!
• Sorry guys, but c'mon, how safe do you think Neil would be if it really was someone else's wife or girlfriend - DonD, how happy would you be if some guy did this to your wife and then said I've got her ready for you now?
• JKK: Let me worry about that.;;)
• JKK asked how I'd feel if 'somebody did that to my wife'. Well mate, I sure as hell wouldn't make a total a-- out of myself. Since she was the one who flirted with danger to begin with, crawled half way up on the stage and let some guy kiss her hand and sing to her, I'd probably tell her, "What did you expect? You didn't have any business crawling up there in the first place. Now, let's go home and see if he knows what he's talking about!" If the guy was a drunken bum and not putting on an act for thousands, there was a time when I would have laid him out and spent the night in jail. But, I don't think this is what we have here. Neither would I suggest throwing him to the crocodiles downunder.
