Applicant Communication Skills

I had an applicant call in to check on their application. When I checked their name in our applicant log on the computer, I noticed there were two people with the same name. "Terry L. Rainey" and "Terri A. Rainey". I asked the person, "Are you Terry with a 'y' or Terri with an 'i'? He answered in a confused voice, "It's Terry with an 'L'."
