We only accept applications for positions that are open. After the interview process and the job has been filled. Do you keep the other applications or can you dispose of them at this time.
Check your state laws. . we are required to keep non hired applications one year after the position is filled. . we usually keep them two or three or until the file cabinets are filled and there is a massive shred coming up.
While you might not have to keep the entire application, you do need to maintain much of the information for EEO/AAP purposes. I find it easier just to keep the app. Although, this year we converted to on-line applications... Problem solved!
