Private Internet Use Policy

I'm drafting a new policy regarding appropriate private internet use (blogging, myspace.com, etc). Our organization deals with confidential information and we do not want this being discussed in a public internet forum. Does anyone have any policies regarding this issue that can be shared?

Most companies today store a tremendous amount of confidential information on the company servers. I am nowhere near as computer savy as most of the 18 year olds who work here. We need a good, and more importantly enforceable, internet use policy. I would appreciate any examples. Thank you all for sharing. [email]kandyb@lpsb.com[/email]

Microsoft has a two word "blogging policy":

"Be smart."

Its from 2004 which in internet terms is about 50 years old.

Its still a relatively new issue and organizations are wrestling with how to balance free speech, protected speech (NLRB), and defending the organizations reputation against unfair and malicious statements.

Other organizations are ENCOURAGING private blogs by employees feeling its a great way to recruit talent and pass along information.
