Advertising Vacancy Postings

Hello to all!
I am a new HR Director of a small school district in SC. My question relates to the length of time a vacancy should be posted. I have followed a "ten day" rule, but was not sure where it is written. Please help! Thank you.

The employer can decide how long a job can remain open, I don't believe there are any rules or regs. We post a job either with "open until filled" or "closing date:__________"
