Employment of Relatives

We are going to re-write our nepotism policy and was wondering if anyone is willing to share their current policy.

Please fax to (910) 572-2884 or email to pmccormick@firstbancorp.com.

Thank you.

• I have been involved in two employment settings, one in which relatives not allowed, second, allowed.
My feeling is:
1. O.K. to have 2 relatives employed, not more than two.
2. Relative 1 has no supervisory control over relative 2.
3. If there are funds involved, (think you are a bank) no relatives.

Hope this helps,
• Have you gotten what you need? If not, we have one I can fax later today or tomorrow.

• I would be interested - thank you.
• Would you be willing to email me your policy on nepotism? Thanks

• I would also like a copy of your policy, if possible? Thanks! Kterlau@carsonind.com

• Our current policy is we hire relatives. We just do not allow one to be the direct superivsor of another, same for spouse.
Which brings up the question of those living together but not married. Therefore neither is legally the spouse of the other; yet they share the same home. Ya jsut gotta luv dealing with all the "what-ifs" you can run into in the wonderful world of HR.
• Here's the paragraph we include in our Employee Handbook. I hope it helps.

EMPLOYMENT OF RELATIVES

We do not have a strict policy against hiring an
employee’s relative or members of the same
family. We do encourage you to refer qualified
individuals for employment. However, each case
will be considered individually. In no instance
would a relative or member of the same family be
placed where their progress can be affected,
directly or indirectly, by relatives. No person
employed by the Company in sensitive areas such
as Personnel or Accounting may have a relative
working at the same facility.

With regard to husband and wife, should marriage
occur after employment, the situation would be
dealt with in a mature manner, acceptable to the
Company. Should this require that one employee
leave a particular current classification or
work area, attempts will be made to find a
suitable position elsewhere in the Company if
practical. In no instance would relatives be
allowed to work in the same department.
