How long must we retain negative pre-employment drug test results for terminated employees?

Since it is only one piece of paper and doesn't clog up the file, we choose to put it in the medical file and keep it there until at least three years after termination. Drug screens via urinalysis are not considered medical exams and are not required to be kept in the medical file unless your state law so states. We just do it that way for ease of filing.

I also place mine in the employee's confidential file and retain as I would other employment records.
