Drug Testing

We're investigating implementing a for-cause testing program (includes smell of alcohol, other visual signs and post-accident testing). Do you test after any and all work-related accidents? Any examples of policies you use would be appreciated.

  • I would recommend testing all employees post-accident if they have to leave the premises for medical treatment or cause $1,000 worth of damage. This covers the employee who is not hurt, but backs the company van into someting or the employee who is not hurt but causes another employee to have to get medical treatment. This will include the CEO, who falls down the stairs and needs to get an x-ray of his/her ankle.

Make sure that when this person is taken for the test, you do not let them dive themselves and that your testing facility does a blood stick for alcohol, not a urine test. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to call me at 615-371-8200.
