Attendance Policy

I am starting up the Human Resources department for a growing company. As part of my duties, I am redesiging the employee manual. We would like to form a more concrete attendance policy. I have worked with the point system but would like to look at some alternatives to this plan. Anyone suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
