Holiday Pay for non-working day?

We have recently added a 2nd shift. They work Mon - Thur 3pm to 1:30am. Well... Friday is a paid holiday. Should they get paid for the holiday - even though it is not a normal day to work? I appreciate your help!

We work a 4 day work week too. If the holiday falls on a Friday, we would close on Thursday. The Friday after Thanksgiving is a floater for us. During the first quarter, management decides when the company will use that day.

Here, if a holiday falls on your regularly scheduled day off, 8 hrs. of holiday pay is banked. . . translated. .you get hours vacation at to your balance

The fair thing to do is to give all employees the benefit of the holiday even if it happens to be on the employee's day off. Providing either a day's pay or additional leave seems appropriate.

At our facility if a holiday falls on your regular day off, your next regularly scheduled work day is your holiday. If you require the person to work, they get double compensation for working their holiday. If they are given off, they get holiday pay for not working.

It is my understanding that unless there is a state law directing you how to handle this.. it is up the the employer. Guess we are the odd man out. Here if an ee is scheduled off a day and that day happens to be a paid holiday, the ee does not receive holiday pay as their work week (hours worked) were not reduced by the holiday closure. However, we do not normally have F-T ee's scheduled off a full day during the week.
