Time schedules for 12 hour shifts

Greetings All,

Does anyone have a creative schedule to accomodate 12 hour shifts. We currently run a week of 3/12 hour shifts and then a week of 4/12 hour shifts, incurring 8 hours of overtime every other week. The employees love it, the budget does not.

Something like 3/12s and 1/8. The 8 hour day ends the designated work week after the first 4 hours and starts the new work week with the second 4 hours. Thereby designating 40 hours per week.

Or some other creative schedule. All suggestions welcome!

  • We do a modified swing shift. Days stay on days and nights stay on nights.

    Week 1
Work Mon and Tues, off Wed and Thurs, work Fri, Sat and Sunday

    Week 2
Off Mon and Tues, work Wed and Thurs, off Fri, Sat and Sun

It equates to 48 hours one week and 32 the next.

Another possibility is 4 day-10 hour shifts and a weekend (Fri, Sat, Sun) shift.

You would lose 4 hours production 4 days a week, but you would not have to pay as much OT.

So, if you are scrambling for production time, I would suggst the 1st alternative.

If not and you are wary of the OT, the second option might be better. You could always PM your machines during the 4 hour down time.
