What system do you use for recording time worked

We are trading in our antiquated timekeeping system for something more efficient. We have talked with the Kronos Rep but have to compare his offering with a couple of other providers in our purchase request (required company procedure). What are you using and how satisfied are you with it? I would very much appreciate any information -- good or bad -- real users can give me rather than relying strictly on what the sales reps hype. Thanks for anything you can offer.

  • Crash - We went with KRONOS last year when we brought payroll in-house. We were with ADP, but got tired of paying for all the "add ons".

Anytime you change systems, there is a period of adjustment.

We like KRONOS because they also have an HRIS system that integrates great with payroll.

We also looked at PeopleSoft, but it was cost prohibitive for a smaller group of employees.
  • CRASH: Have you done an assessment of your needs for time recording? What is your companies goal or objective for the change? If someone has not done this then you may be spending monty not necessary. We have multiple work site locations and new equipment is not what we needed. Direct management/supervision of the time keeping done was what we really needed in order to get a sustanined correct record of the ligitiment time recorded by each employee. We still use the manual written in system for accounting and office clerks because it fits our needs for maximum flexibility by the department head to control who is working when. HR is not the time card police and we pay whatever the manager says is the hours worked by x-employee.

Don't let the salesman convence your company that HR/payroll will have a better record with any mechanical system. Sometimes it just want fit. It may look good, but now the supervisor/manager is taken out of the loop or their job is made easier by HR picking up oversight and accuracy of the time worked!

Watch those salesmen!!! They will have you driving a FORD F-150 when what you really needed was a mule to get down to the pone to dip a hook and bobber!
