Exempt and PTO

Hello! I have a question! If an exempt employee takes 6 hours off during a day (and lets assume they work 8 hour days)can I deduct that from their PTO time? I am putting together a PTO policy and I have a template/sample wording I am working from. The template says I can only deduct full day increments from PTO for exempt. Is that correct?

They would still get paid their salary - it would just be deducted from their PTO....

I would appreciate any help!

Thanks!

  • Yes Samantha, if you have a PTO plan, you can deduct the actual time missed from the plan, don't need to do it in full day increments. BUT, when PTO is used up, then you have to go to the regs and deduct for full days only, and only if for ee personal reasons. Check these threads for some really complete discussions of these issues.
