Time Change

We are a 24/7 manufacturing operation - non-union. The night shift that worked the night of the time change feels we owe them and hour due to the time change in October. Does someone have an easy explanation I can provide for when the time change occurs? It seems like it comes up every fall and spring.

If they are non exempt you owe them for the hours actually worked. Our policy states that in April, work time is reduced by an hour.. supervisors may authorize the employee to come in early or work late to make it up. In October, it increase the hours and they are paid acccodingly including overtime if appropriate. I would guess you need to pay.

Did they actually work 8 hours or 9? If they actually worked 9 hours then you need to pay them for the time. If not, then you don't.
