I think that you should first analyze what has led to this request, because the request is too vague. You might want to interview the individuals who gave you the assignment to find out what problems they think they have. There are surveys which measure the degree of employee satisfaction with wages, benefits, quality of supervision etc. if this is what the requestors want to know. You need a better definition.
Also -- what are you going to do with the results? If a survey is done, you are setting up the anticipation by the employees of some type of reaction ....
Personally, I would want to make the "poll" on "morale" as specific as possible. You don't just want it to be a big whinning session or a free ticket to bash the company. I would have specific sections such as "benefits", "training", etc. not just "what do you like/dislike about the company?"
I agree with Gillian. I also think the person making the request has little to do so he/she thinks that also translates to YOU have little to do. Tell him it ain't so........
Just go out and look at their faces. If they are smiling and laughing, morale is good. :DD If they are crying or yelling, morale is bad. xx( If they look normal, then moral is normal. xB-)
