Minimum wage vs. Leavable wage

    The minimum wage is the minimum hourly rate allowed by federal and state regulations. Sometimes they are different, in which case you go with the higher rate. A living wage is a pay rate set as a minimum by a local government entity. There are a number of cities which have passed these laws and they are higher than the minumum wage. Some of them have dual rates - a lower rate if the employees get benefits and a higher one if they do not. As far as I know most living wage laws apply to businesses which have contracts with a particular city, although I have heard of proposed regulations which would apply to business located within a city.
