Volunteered time

Our employees sometimes volunteer their time on weekends for parades and other functions representing the company. Are we required to pay them for this? If not, may we give them time off at a later date for donating their time? Thank you for your help!

If you do not require their attendance at these functions, you don't have to pay them. If you require their attendance, you are a private employer and the employee is non-exempt, you cannot give them time off in lieu of pay unless you do it in the same payroll week.
