holiday for exempts

In a previously posted question, it was stated that an employer usually gives an exempt employee another day off if the employee works the holiday.
In our facility we are a 24/7 operation--my question is---What about the exempt employee who works 4 10-hour days and the holiday is not one of these scheduled days, are they entitled to another day off?

  • Depends strictly on the policies at your facility. In ours, if a holiday falls on an employee's 'non scheduled day', he or she gets another day off with pay. This is only fair, we feel, so that all employees get the announced/published number of annual holidays.
  • Or, you pay the holiday, ignoring the DAY of the week it falls on and be done with it in that week. Then, you don't have to maintain records of who took the holiday and who didn't. Of course this is only appropriate if holiday pay does not affect overtime.
