When I worked for a past employer (International organization with offices in VA), our full-time employees were exempt salaried and non-exempt salaried. All of these employees were paid 40 hours regardless if they worked 40 hours. It was the responsibility of managers to schedule all employees to work 40 hours. Sick time was not limited, therefore, there were no deductions from an available hours pool (for sick time, dr appointments, care for a child, etc). Vacation was tracked in hourly increments for non-exempt salaried employees. Vacation was tracked in full day increments for exempt salaried employees. Part-time employees were paid for hours worked.
My current employer pays full-time, non-exempt employees hourly. These employees are only paid for hours worked.
