Minimum hour requirements

Is there any type of minimum hours requirement for hourly employees, i.e. is an employee required to work at least 1 hour in a day, in a week, in a month? Any state law will be helpful. The employer is domiciled in California and has workers in every state. Much appreciated.

Yes and no. In Ca. we are subject to reporting time pay. If a person reports to work and not put to work or given less than half the scheduled work for the day, we pay half the scheduled work, no more than 4 hours or less than 2. If an employee is called in sometime other than the regularly scheduled work, then they must be paid at least two hours. There is an exception if the reason for no work is something out of an employers control, such as an earthquake. You should read the wage order applicable to your industry. You can get it at [url]www.dir.ca.gov[/url] The applicable wage order is by industry, not what a particular group of employees do. For example, all of the employees in a manufacturing company are covered by the "manufacturing wage order" even though many people don't actually manufacture anything.
