Paid time off accumulation

Does anyone have a policy which allows accumulation of any paid time from year to year? Our CEO has asked for research on the common practices. We are a manufacturer.

I know some school districts allow for sick leave accumulation to a maximum benefit. We have a policy that allows employees who have been with the company over 10 years to rollover 40 or less hours per year to a maximum of 160 hours. These hours are available at any time and are paid out at termination of employment.

We allow sick leave to accmulate up to 30 days (240 hours) and it can be carried on as long as they are employed. We do not allow vacation days to be carried over.

We have a very generous policy. Sick leave accrual is unlimited (earn 80 hours per year) and paid in full at seperation. Vacation is capped at 400 hours, also paid at seperation.

We are public sector.

Our sick leave accumulation is also unlimited. We do not pay it out at termination, but it counts as extra retirement service credit at the rate of one extra month of credit for every 160 hours of accrued leave.

The amount of vacation that may be carried over varies with length of service and ranges from 180 to 532 hours. It is paid out upon termination for anyone with more than six months of service.

You should look at the results of our HR Hero Survey called "Paid Leave 2005." Out of 3,125 responses,
52% allow leave rollover with some limitations, and 21% allow it with no limitations.
