Shredding Documents-How long to Keep

Hi,
We have a self-insurance health plan. We are wondering if anyone has a record of how long you have to keep records for the health plan.

We are wanting the shred some documents, these include old Plan Documents, correspondence, invoices, monthly listing of claims paid and prescriptions filled, etc.

I'd appreciate any help!

We too are self insured. I asked our broker the same question recently. They said 7 years should be enough, but for some reason I don't feel comfortable with this. I think I am going to do 10.
